i think your description of this as a "tantrum" is about the best i've heard. the tantrum is the child's bad behavior of last resort, after complaining, whining, needling, etc have all failed. the GOP is in that position now, and it's about the most satisfying schadenfreude to watch. (and by "watch" i mean "read about on dailykos.")
